Providing Access to High-Quality Healthcare for Seniors and Low-Income Parents

As someone who has worked in healthcare my entire life, I know that you can’t predict when a loved one is going to fall ill. In these times it is painfully obvious that medical care is a necessity- not a luxury. When you are sitting in a hospital bed, the last thing you should have to worry about is whether you can afford to be healthy. We must protect our most vulnerable neighbors and guarantee seniors and low-income parents access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.

Fighting COVID-19 By Following Science, Not Politics

There is only one way to battle this virus: follow scientific expertise. When the nation puts politics above science, we only prolong the suffering that we are all sharing. As your voice in Hartford, I will not compromise our health policies by putting the needs of special interests and skeptics above scientific truth. Hear Martha speak on her experience as a nurse on the reveal podcast!

Improving Everyone’s Access to Quality Healthcare

Healthcare should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Whether it is a yearly checkup, a new prescription, or an emergency surgery, every person should be able to cover the bill without demolishing their hard-earned savings. I support removing barriers and obstacles to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone.

Establishing a Living Wage

Our communities have depended on the heroic work of essential workers during this pandemic. Many Americans put their lives on the line everyday putting food on grocery shelves, disinfecting classrooms, and providing countless other services that keep our towns running. It is our responsibility to make sure that all workers are paid the wages that they deserve- now and in the future. No one should have to work two or three jobs just to make rent. As your state senator, I will fight to make sure all workers are paid a living wage.

Reducing Property Taxes by Restoring State Funding to Our Towns

Taxes should be about contributing one’s fair share. But for too long, our district’s taxpayers have been unfairly burdened to pay more than is reasonable. We have gone too long without having a voice in Hartford to fight for what is fair. As your state senator, I will reduce property taxes by restoring state funding to our towns.

Creating Tax Credits for Working Families

Raising children is a full time job on its own, but many families can’t afford to have one parent stay home. I believe that we should ease the burdens on working families who are already sacrificing so much to work in our towns. I will work everyday in the state Senate to pass new tax credits so that we can take proper care of our working families.

Protecting Our Internet and Ensuring Net Neutrality

The internet is home to the greatest library of information ever collected in human history. Net neutrality legislation ensures that these vast resources remain available to every user, regardless of income or location- whether you are watching Netflix or emailing a coworker. As your state senator, I will take every step to protect our internet from greed-driven service providers and ensure net neutrality.

Launching Paid Family Medical Leave

A year ago, nobody knew that this pandemic would ravage the world. Sickness is unexpected. But while your world may seem to halt while recovering, bills do not. Recovering from illnesses and injuries is hard work, but it is also necessary work. As your state senator, I will support the launch of paid family medical leave so that our friends and coworkers can be supported while they make healthy recoveries.

Protecting Our Vulnerable Residents in Care or at Home

In a time when we have already lost so many, we must do whatever is in our power to protect our family and friends who would be most affected by illness. It is imperative that we institute safeguards and follow best practices to protect our vulnerable residents in care facilities and at home.

Safeguarding Women’s Reproductive Rights

Women and women alone should have the right to decide what they do with their own bodies. I believe that it is our duty to provide all women with access to essential reproductive health resources so that they can make responsible and informed decisions about their health and future. Our role as a government should be to safeguard these rights- that is what I will do in the state senate.

Lowering Prescription Drug Costs

Prescription drugs in the United States are more expensive than almost anywhere else in the world. Big pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars every year by charging American families exorbitant amounts of money for medications that keep our loved ones healthy. I have heard too many stories of families struggling to afford the rising prices of insulin, statins, and other essential drugs. Enough is enough. When elected, I will take the steps necessary to lower prescription drug costs.
